Whether you’re hunting for handmade souvenirs or just want to wander, eat, and people-watch under the Jordanian sun, here’s everything you need to know about visiting Souk Jara.
What Is Souk Jara?
Souk Jara is a seasonal open-air market held every Friday afternoon during the warmer months (usually from May to September). It’s nestled right off Rainbow Street, one of Amman’s most popular walking areas, in the heart of Jabal Amman.
This isn’t just a tourist market—it’s a gathering spot for locals and visitors alike, and it’s become something of a weekend tradition for many Ammanis.
What You’ll Find
Souk Jara is all about creativity and culture. Every stall feels like a story—and it’s the perfect place to support local makers. Here’s a taste of what’s on offer:
- Handmade Crafts & Jewelry – From Bedouin-style silver rings to colorful woven accessories.
- Local Art – Watercolor prints, calligraphy, photography, and contemporary Jordanian designs.
- Home Decor & Antiques – Unique finds, traditional fabrics, and vintage-style souvenirs.
- Street Food – Think shawarma, knafeh, falafel, ice cream, and fresh juices.
- Live Performances – On many Fridays, you’ll catch live music or street performances adding to the atmosphere.
It’s the kind of place where you can pick up one-of-a-kind gifts or just enjoy browsing with a fresh lemonade in hand.
