Chase Sapphire Prefered

Choosing the right credit card can be confusing, and that’s why we want to help you on your journey. There are a lot of factors to take in consideration, like annual fee, sign-up bonuses, reward points and perks like lounge access and TSA refunds. Of course, it all depends on your goals and preferences. In my case, I have to say the Chase Sapphire Preferred is one of the best options in the market.

It has a very low annual fee ($95), and although it doesn’t offer fancy perks like airport lounges access, it gives you up to 2X reward points for traveling and dining, and a very good sign-up bonus,

Annual Fee

This card has $95 Annual fee.

Welcome Offer

Earn 60,000 bonus points when you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. – that’s a $600 cash redemption value!

Rewards

Earn 2X points on travel and dining at restaurants- from airfare and hotels to fine dining and cafés.

Highlights of the Chase Sapphire Preferred

ANNUAL FEE OF $95

The Chase Sapphire Preferred has a low annual fee in comparison to other credit cards with the same benefits. However, it doesn’t offer the fancy benefits that other cards will.

25% MORE IN TRAVEL REDEMPTION

Thanks to Chase’s multiple partnerships and and Ultimate Rewards Portal, the Chase Sapphire Preferred allows you to get 25% more value when you redeem for airfare, hotels, car rentals and cruises through them.

PARTNERSHIPS

The Chase Sapphire Preferred is offering unlimited deliveries with a $0 delivery fee and reduced service fees on orders over $12 with DoorDash, as well as 5X points on Lyft rides through March 2022.

SIGN-UP OFFER

The Chase Sapphire Preferred offers one of the best sign-up offers in the market. The card gives you 60,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. That’s $750 toward travel when redeemed through Chase Ultimate Rewards!.

Downside of the Chase Sapphire Preferred

APR

Unfortunately, this card doesn’t offer a 0% introductory APR period, enforcing customers to pay interest on every purchase that is not pay in full within the card period. The interest is also slightly above average, with a 15.99% to 22.99% variable APR.

PREMIUM PERKS

The Chase Sapphire Preferred doesn’t come with some of the fancy perks of its competitors, like airport lounge access, travel credits or TSA reimbursement.

My take

The Chase Sapphire Preferred is an awesome credit card if you are looking for a big sign-up bonus and you are not expecting to carry a balance. Although it offers great benefits like the 25% more on travel redemption, there are better options in the market for reward points and travel perks. I would categorize it as a mid-range travel credit card, as it gives you the best of both worlds. A decent price for a decent value.

Things to keep in mind when choosing a credit card:

  • Consider the fees: Take in consideration your expenses and how much of the fees you are willing / able to pay.
  • Credit Score: Your credit score will determine your availability to apply to some credit cards. The best cards tend to be available to customer with good credit score (a FICO® Score of 670 or higher). Be mindful of this and work on it as overall it will allow you to access to more and better benefits. Applying for cards when you don’t have the enough credit for it could damage your score.
  • Decide based on your interests: If you are a person who travel only once a year, travel lounges might not be something you care about. Find a card that fits your travel habits and that offers the rewards you could use the most.
  • APR: They will vary depending on your credit, and they could go as high as 25.49%! It is always recommended to pay the amount in full before the end of the period to avoid these fees.
