Language
Singapore has four official languages: English, Malay, Mandarin Chinese, and Tamil. English is the main language used in business and education, and is widely spoken throughout the country.
Electricity
In Singapore the standard voltage is 230 V and the frequency is 50 Hz. That’s the standard voltage in the UK, Europe, Australia and most of Asia and Africa; If you are traveling from the US you will need an adaptor.
Currency
The Singapore Dollar is the official currency. 1 USD equals 1.30 Singapore dollars (as of 2024). Although foreign currency are accepted at tourist centres, I would recommend to get some local currency, that can be easily withdrawn from the ATMs. Major credit card companies are also widely accepted.

Situated near the Equator, Singapore has a tropical weather throughout the year, with high humidity and rainfalls. The average temperature is around 27°C (81°F) and it rains frequently. The wettest months are usually from November to January.
Safety
Singapore consistently ranks among the safest destinations globally. Violent crime is exceptionally rare, and petty crimes like pickpocketing are uncommon . The city-state’s strict laws and effective law enforcement contribute to its low crime rates . While scams have seen an increase in recent years, overall, travelers can feel secure exploring Singapore.

How to get around Singapore
Mass Rapid Transit (MRT): This is Singapore’s subway system, which covers most of the city and is very efficient and reliable. You can purchase tickets at the station or use an EZ-Link card, which can be topped up and used for multiple trips.
Bus: Singapore has a extensive bus network that covers most of the city, and is a more affordable option than the MRT. You can pay with cash or an EZ-Link card.
Taxi: Taxis are readily available in Singapore, and can be hailed on the street or picked up at designated taxi stands. They are metered and the fares are reasonable.
Grab: This is Southeast Asia’s version of Uber, and is widely used in Singapore. You can download the app and easily book a ride.
Bicycle: Singapore has a bike-sharing system called “oBike”, which allows you to rent a bike for a short period of time and drop it off at any of the designated bike parking areas throughout the city.
Overall, Singapore is very pedestrian-friendly, so walking is also a great way to explore the city, especially in areas like the Marina Bay and Chinatown.
