Windsor nature park and MacRitchie Reservoir
The Windsor Nature Park is a green space and park located in the Central Catchment Nature Reserve in Singapore. It serves as a gateway to the MacRitchie Reservoir. The MacRitchie Reservoir is Singapore’s oldest and one of its most beloved nature reserves, part of the Central Catchment Nature Reserve, which is the largest area of primary rainforest in Singapore. The reservoir itself plays a crucial role in the city’s water supply, but it’s also a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
Hiking Trails in Windsor Nature Park
Hanguana Trail: Named after the rare and endemic Hanguana plant species found in the area, this trail is designed to showcase the rich biodiversity of Singapore’s native flora. The trail is relatively short, just about 350 meters, making it an easy and accessible walk.
Drongo Trail: This is a more challenging 1.6 miles (2.2-km) trail that takes you through denser forest areas, offering opportunities to spot various bird species, including the drongo bird after which the trail is named.
Squirrel Trail: A relatively easy 600-meter trail, perfect for families and those who prefer a leisurely walk.
Hiking Trails in acRitchie Reservoir
MacRitchie Nature Trail: This is a 6.8 miles (11 km) trail that circles the reservoir. It takes you through dense forests and offers scenic views of the water. It’s a relatively easy trail, and offer a chance to spot monkeys, monitor lizards, and various forest birds.
TreeTop Walk Trail: This is a 4.3 miles (7 km) trail that includes the famous TreeTop Walk, a 250-meter-long suspension bridge that offers a bird’s eye view of the forest canopy. It also includes the Jelutong Tower (a lookout point), and the chance to spot rare bird species.
Petai Trail: A shorter trail of 1.8 miles (3 km) that is ideal for those looking for a quick and easy walk. It follows a boardwalk along the reservoir’s edge, providing peaceful water views.
Lornie Trail: A 3.1 miles (5 km) trail that runs parallel to Lornie Road and is a more straightforward path with gentle slopes, suitable for a relaxed hike or jog.
How to get to the Windsor nature park and MacRitchie Reservoir
Getting to MacRitchie Reservoir in Singapore is relatively straightforward, as it is well-connected by public transport and easily accessible by car. You can take a taxi to the park’s entrance or get to the Marymount MRT Station (Circle Line) and then walk for 15-20 minutes to the entrance. Direct bus routes (52, 74, 93, 157, 165, 166, 852, 855) are also available and stop near the entrance on Lornie Road.
