How to get around Singapore
A Complete Transportation Guide for Travelers
Discover how to get around Singapore! With its efficient public transportation, walkable neighborhoods, and plenty of attractions packed into a small area, getting around Singapore is as easy as it is enjoyable.
MRT (Mass Rapid Transit)
The MRT is the heartbeat of Singapore’s transportation system, and it’s probably the easiest and most efficient way to get around the city. The extensive network covers almost every corner of the country (Singapore is small), making it easy to reach most attractions and areas. You would just need to purchase an EZ-Link card or a Singapore Tourist Pass at any MRT station. These cards allow you to tap in and out of stations without needing to buy individual tickets, or you can just tap pay at each station.
Buses
Singapore’s bus system is extensive, clean, and efficient, and it is a good alternative for routes that the MRT doesn’t cover. Like the MRT, buses also accept EZ-Link cards. The buses are punctual, clean, and well-maintained, so you can expect a smooth and comfortable ride. Most bus stops have electronic boards showing the arrival times, so you’ll know exactly when your ride is coming.
Walking
Singapore is incredibly walkable, with well-maintained sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, and plenty of signs to guide you. The city is compact, so you can easily move from one neighborhood to another without breaking a sweat.

Plane
Singapore is a very small country, and there aren’t any domestic flights available (It wont be necessary either way), however, Singapore’s Changi Airport is ranked as one of the best airports in the world, and it is a great place for layover, as each terminal has its own unique attractions, like the Cactus Garden, a rooftop garden with a bar, the Sunflower Garden, the free 24-hour cinema, the Butterfly Garden, and the Peranakan-themed heritage zone, in addition to the many amenities the airport has to offer.
Boats & Cruises
Getting around Singapore by boat is a chill and scenic way to explore the city. You can catch a bumboat along the Singapore River, where you’ll drift past iconic landmarks like the Merlion, Marina Bay Sands, and the colorful shophouses of Clarke Quay. It’s a great way to take in the city’s vibe without rushing, plus you get some cool photo ops along the way. For a different experience, you can also take a ferry to the Southern Islands or cruise around Sentosa.
Taxi or Ride Share
It is super easy and convenient to get around Singapore via taxis or rideshare apps like Grab, especially when you want to avoid the heat. Taxis are plentiful, and you can easily flag one down on the street, hop into a taxi stand, or book one through an app. The drivers are generally friendly and know the city well, so you’ll get where you need to go without any hassle.
Ride-share apps are just as straightforward. Fares are also reasonable, and it’s a great option if you’re heading somewhere off the beaten path or just don’t feel like navigating public transport.
The most popular ride-share apps are: Grab (the dominant ride-hailing app in Singapore), Gojek, Ryde and ComfortDelGro.
