Mini Taj

Mini Taj is the younger brother of the impressive Taj Mahal. This mausoleum, Built in the late 17th century, was commissioned by Azam Shah, the son of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, in memory of his mother, Dilras Banu Begum. While it may not have the same grandeur as the Taj Mahal, it’s still a beautiful piece of Mughal architecture with its own unique charm.

Architecture and design of the Mini Taj

What makes the Mini Taj an exceptional place is its extraordinary architectural design. Unlike former Mughal monuments, which substantially used red sandstone, the Mini Taj is erected entirely of white marble, giving it an elegant and refined appearance.
The Mini Taj set in a spacious garden with reflective pools, and the layout is reminiscent of the Taj Mahal’s gardens. The complex consists of several structures with a stunning white marble structure with a central dome and four minarets, echoing the design elements of the Taj Mahal. It’s a little more modest in size and embellishment but is still impressive in its own right.

Other notable elements include complex geometric figures, oil of flowers loaded with symbology and Arabic penmanship with textbooks from the Koran.

Mini Taj talkd about the exchange between Persia and India during the reign of the Mughals, analogous to the Persian influence on the architecture of Uzbekistan during the same period.

Visit the Mini Taj in Agra

The Mini Taj is open to the public to visit. Admission costs 300 rupees for foreigners ($3.62) and opening hours are between dawn and dusk, varying slightly depending on season.
While it may not draw as many visitors as the Taj Mahal, the Bibi ka Maqbara (the actual name of the mini Taj), offers a peaceful escape and a chance to appreciate Mughal architecture without the usual crowds.
