Miami Children’s Museum

Founded in 1983 and relocated to its current 56,500 sq ft facility on Watson Island in 2003, the Miami Children’s Museum is a non-profit institution designed for hands-on learning and play. Its structure includes 17 permanent exhibit galleries, preschool classrooms, a charter school, and spaces for events and family programming.

Interactive Exhibits

Exhibits are intended to reflect local life and environments, including displays like “Port of Miami,” “Everglades,” and a sandcastle-themed installation that align with Florida’s landscape. Other engaging areas include a mini supermarket, art studio, music lab, multi-sensory room, and outdoor play zones.

Program and Educational Scope

  • Early Childhood Institute: A licensed preschool (ages 1–5), based on HighScope and Reggio Emilia methods.
  • Charter School: Serves kindergarten through 5th grade with museum-based learning.
  • Community Programs: Includes sensory-friendly sessions, camps on school holidays, “Mini Mondays” for toddlers, and themed events like “Generational Breakfasts” and storytelling programs.
