Pinder’s Point Lighthouse

A Quiet Beacon on the Edge of Grand Bahama

Pinder’s Point Lighthouse is located on the southwestern tip of Grand Bahama Island. Though often overlooked by visitors focused on beaches and resorts, the lighthouse has been a steadfast landmark for decades—serving both as a navigational aid and as a reminder of the island’s maritime heritage.

A Modest but Enduring Structure

Unlike some lighthouses that dominate the skyline with their towering presence, Pinder’s Point is relatively small and unassuming. Its red-and-white exterior and cylindrical shape are classic, but the scale is more local than grand.

Still, its placement is strategic. Built near the channel where vessels approach the harbor, the lighthouse was constructed to help guide ships safely past the shallows and reefs that line this part of the coast. Its exact construction date is difficult to confirm, but it’s been part of Grand Bahama’s landscape since at least the early 20th century.

Though it’s no longer manned, the lighthouse remains functional—quietly operating as part of the island’s navigational system.

The Surrounding Area: Quiet, Local, and Scenic

Pinder’s Point itself is a small settlement, not far from the industrial port area west of Freeport. The area is residential, with narrow roads, a coastal breeze, and views across the rocky shoreline.

The lighthouse sits at the edge of the community near the water. There’s no formal visitor center, signage, or tour infrastructure, which gives the spot a low-key, authentic feel. For travelers looking to see parts of the island beyond the main tourist zones, this is a quiet stop that offers a glimpse of everyday life on Grand Bahama.

It’s also a good place to watch the ocean, take a few photos, or simply pause before heading back toward town.
