Beaches in Egypt
From Desert Sands to Turquoise Shores:
When you think of Egypt, most times the first thing that comes to mind is the pyramids of Giza, what many travelers overlook is that Egypt is also home to some of the most stunning beaches in the Middle East—offering warm turquoise waters, golden sands, and world-class coral reefs.
Egypt is bordered by the Mediterranean and the Red Sea, plus two gulfs, with a total coastline of 1,892 miles (3,049 kilometres), and approximately 360 days of sunshine with year warm temperatures. Beaches in Egypt are a true treasure, offering much more than just breathtaking views. These are the best beaches in Egypt (in my personal opinion):
The Red Sea Riviera: Egypt’s Underwater Jewel
Naama Bay
Naama Bay is located in the city of Sharm El Sheikh. It is one of the most unique and famous beaches in the region, characterized by its beautiful turquoise water and golden sand.
The warm, clear waters are perfect for snorkeling and diving and offer opportunities to explore coral reefs and see a variety of marine life. Naama Island offers a wide range of hotels, restaurants, beach cafes and souvenir shops. As the sun sets, Naama Bay becomes lively with nightlife; Bars and clubs along the beach offer entertainment until the early hours of the morning.
Shark Bay
Shark Bay is another popular beach in Sharm el-Sheikh, located in the northern part of the area. It is known for its crystal clear waters and amazing marine life, making it a great destination for snorkelers and divers.
For those seeking peace and privacy, Shark Bay is your best destination because it is less visible than Naama Bay. It is also surrounded by luxury hotels and restaurants. Many of these properties offer direct access to the beach, with facilities such as sea-facing swimming pools, restaurants and bars.
Ras Um Sid
Located in South Sinai, Ras Um Sid is a unique beach, with a blend of beautiful mountains, clear waters and rich marine life, famous for diving and snorkeling.
The plains of Ras Um Sid are filled with beautiful coral gardens that provide a fascinating underwater surface. Golden sands and turquoise waters create an ideal environment for sunbathing, swimming or enjoying the tranquility of the surroundings.
Hurghada Beach
Hurghada is a beach lover’s paradise that perfectly blends sun, sea, and adventure. Known for its long stretches of golden sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters, Hurghada is one of the most popular beach destinations in the country—and for good reason.
The beaches here are ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and diving, thanks to the vibrant coral reefs just offshore. Its mix of lively nightlife, water sports, and family-friendly resorts makes it one of the best beaches in Egypt for all types of travelers.
Marsa Alam Beach
Located on the east coast of Egypt, Marsa Alam Beach is a hidden paradise that attracts travelers seeking excitement and tranquility. Although it is not a popular destination, it offers a unique experience with its clear waters and a wide golden sandy beach.
Visitors can enjoy a variety of marine life, including dolphins, turtles and colorful fish. Apart from its incredible natural resources, Marsa Alam also offers peace and tranquility that are difficult to find in tourist destinations.
Dahab
A more laid-back, boho alternative to Sharm. This coastal gem is beloved by backpackers and digital nomads. The Blue Hole is a must-visit dive site, and the town has an artsy, barefoot charm.
Mediterranean Coast: Local Charm and Sunset Views
This historic port city offers beach clubs and promenades with more of a local Egyptian feel. The beaches aren’t as pristine as the Red Sea’s, but the city’s mix of culture, history, and sea views is worth the visit.
Marsa Matruh
Located west of Alexandria, this beach town boasts white sand and crystal-clear waters. It’s a favorite summer escape for Egyptians and less frequented by foreign tourists.
